Una serie di monete Euro in memoria dello scacchista tedesco Siegbert Tarrasch.
Επιτέλους μετά από καιρό αναζήτησης, έφτασε στα χέρια μας ένα μάλλον σπάνιο συλλεκτικό αντικείμενο που θέλαμε πώς και πώς να το προβάλουμε μέσα από το Ιστολόγιο. Είναι σχετικό με μια από τις μεγάλες μορφές της παγκόσμιας ιστορίας του σκακιού, τον Ζήγκμπερτ Τάρρας . Με μεγάλη συμβολή στις ιδέες του παιχνιδιού και ιδίως την εξέλιξι της θεωρίας των ανοιγμάτων.

Ο συλλέκτης – κάτοχος του σπάνιου αντικειμένου (ιδρυτικό μέλος της Σκακιστικής Ακαδημίας Χαλκίδος «Παλαμήδης ο Ευβοεύς»), μας το ενεχείρισε προσφάτως με αποτέλεσμα να μπορούμε να το περιγράψουμε καλύτερα.

Πρόκειται, λοιπόν, για μία πλήρη σειρά νομισμάτων (οι 8 αξίες του Euro) της επίσημης έκδοσης της Γερμανίας του έτους 2002 (κοπή D).

Τα νομίσματα, ακυκλοφόρητα φυσικά, είναι συσκευασμένα αεροστεγώς σε ένα «blister», όπως λένε οι συλλέκτες τις πλαστικοποιημένες θήκες. Η σειρά των κοινών κατά τα άλλα ευρονομισμάτων σε αυτήν την σφραγισμένη ειδική έκδοσι, φαίνεται αρκετά σπάνια, καθώς περιορίστηκε αυστηρά σε 333 κομμάτια (αριθμημένες σειρές)! Το ανα χείρας κομμάτι (όπως μπορείτε να διαπιστώσετε στις σκαναρισμένες εικόνες), είναι το υπ’ αρ. 24.
Έκδοσι ιδιωτικής μεν πρωτοβουλίας, αλλά υπο την επίβλεψι του γερμανικού Δημοσίου (vom bayerische Hauptmuenzenamt = της δημόσιας νομισματικής υπηρεσίας της Βαυαρίας).

Εν τούτοις σημαντικότερο για ’μάς είναι το γεγονός της επιλογής του τιμώμενου ποσώπου σ’ αυτό το συλλεκτικό αντικείμενο. Κι αυτό είναι ένας από τους πιο μεγάλους σκακιστές της εποχής του, ένας άνθρωπος με υψηλή παιδεία και με έντονη προσωπικοτητα. Ο γερμανός (γεννηθείς στην σημερινή Πολωνία) Ζήγκμπερτ Τάρρας (Siegbert Tarrasch )!

Δύο φωτογραφίες του τιμώμενου προσώπου (μία από την νεανική και μία από την ώριμη ηλικία του) μπορεί να δή κανείς στις επάνω γωνίες της μπροστινής πλευράς της πλαστικοποιημένης θήκης, ενώ στην μέση πάνω από τα οκτώ νομίσματα διαβάζουμε: Ζήγκμπερτ Τάρρας. Εις μνήμην. 1862-1934 (…)

Στην πίσω πλευρά του blister διαβάζουμε τον τίτλο του δίπλα στο όνομά του: «Δρ Τάρρας. Ειδικευμένος Ιατρός στην θεραπεία υποβολής δια υπνωτισμού και Μαίτρ» (Dr. Tarrasch spezialarzt fuer Suggestionsbehandlung und Schachmeister).
Στην ίδια πλευρά, κάτω από ένα σκίτσο του, οι γερμανοί εκδότες δικαιολογούν την επιλογή τους να αφιερώσουν την παρούσα έκδοσι στο τιμώμενο πρόσωπο («για τα 140ά γενέθλιά του») σε ένα σύντομο κείμενο παρουσίασης.
Σας το παραθέτουμε και αυτό σε μετάφρασι:

«Ο Δρ. Siegbert Tarrasch γεννήθηκε στο Μπρέσλαου (Breslau) και ενωρίς συμπεριλήφθηκε στους κορυφαίους Γερμανούς στο σκάκι. Πολύ σύντομα ανέβηκε και στην απόλυτα παγκόσμια κλάσι (του αθλήματος).
Το 1908 έπαιξε για το Παγκόσμιο Πρωτάθλημα, αλλά έχασε από τον «αντίζηλό» του Εμάνουελ Λάσκερ με 3-8.
Ο Τάρρας είναι ένας από τους πιο ιδιοφυείς σκακιστές και παιδαγωγούς όλων των εποχών.

Η από καιρό παραλαβή μιας ενδιαφέρουσας συνεργασίας μάς υποχρεώνει να επανέλθουμε στο αγαπημένο μας, από τα συλλεκτικά, χόμπι της συλλογής καρφιτσών πέτου.
Σχετικά λοιπόν με την θεματολογία και την κατηγοριοποίησι των Ολυμπιακών καρφιτσών -- κατά το τέλος του καλοκαιριού είχαμε αναφερθή πρώτοι στο θέμα με σχετική ανάρτησι - ο καλός φίλος εξ Εσπερίας Jim, μας έστειλε (κοντεύει μήνας από τότε και του ζητούμε συγγνώμη για την καθυστέρησι) το δικό του παρακάτω κείμενο, ως πληροφοριακό υλικό για τους ενδιαφερομένους φίλους των ολυμπιακών ενθυμημάτων και κυρίως για τους (όχι μόνο αρχάριους) συλλέκτες Ολυμπιακής καρφίτσας (Olympic pins).
Να επισημειώσουμςε πως και η κατηγοριοποίησι του Jim KIRKPATRICK , που βεβαίως έχει βαρύνουσα άποψι ως ειδικευμένος συλλέκτης, δεν είναι τελική. Για παράδειγμα, εκτός από την μεγάλη κατηγορία των Εσωτερικών (Internal pins), λείπει η εξαιρετικής σημασίας κατηγορία (με φανατικούς και πολυπληθείς φίλους, ανάμεσα σε μάς που συλλέγουμε αυτά τα ολυμπιακά «σηματάκια»), των "NOC pins". Για αυτήν την κύρια κατηγορία (δεν είναι δυνατόν να συμπεριληφθή με τα υπόλοιπα της ποικίλης θεματολογίας υπο τον τίτλο «Διάφορα») αξίζει κάποια στιγμή να επανέλθουμε. Προφανώς …του χρόνου!
(Ζητούμε συγγνώμη γιατί λόγω άλλων προτεραιοτήτων δεν κρίνουμε αναγκαία την μετάφρασι του κειμένου και το παραθέτουμε στο πρωτότυπο, βάζοντας μόνο έναν τίτλο ελληνικά σε κάθε παράγραφο)

ΘΕΜΑΤΟΛΟΓΙΑ ΚΑΙ ΚΑΤΗΓΟΡΙΟΠΟΙΗΣΗ ΤΩΝ ΟΛΥΜΠΙΑΚΩΝ ΚΑΡΦΙΤΣΩΝ
Although there are numerous sub-categories of Olympic pins, I like to break them down into about six main divisions. In my own mind I compartmentalize every set or pin into Games Mark, Sports, Sponsor, Mascot, Commemorative, or Countdown. Some collectors look for pins of a specific type. These types can be in sets or individual pins.
1. Εμβλήματα (Logo pins)
Games Mark pins have a version of the official logo of a particular Olympics somewhere on the pin. The Games Mark helps identify a unique Games and usually reflects elements commonly identified with the host city or region. For instance the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing uses a stylized version of "Jing". Jing comes from Beijing and the figure in motion reflects the ancient Chinese art of calligraphy. In many of the Candidate City and Bid pins Jing had the five colors of the Olympic Rings. The Official Games Mark has Jing in white on a field of red, which is the color of the National Flag of China. Beijing 2008 usually appears on this type of pin and leaves no doubt about the Olympic edition it represents. Usually there are more Games Mark pins produced than any other type.
2. Αθλήματα (Sport pins)
Sports pins are devoted to the different sports competed in a particular Olympic Games. Most often the pictograph chosen to depict that sport is the prominent feature of the pin. Pictographs are graphic depictions of individual sports. They vary somewhat from Olympics to Olympics, but you can usually tell the sport from the pictograph. As more sports are added, pictographs are created for the sport and new pins are made for it. I site the Judo pictograph on some 1980 Moscow pins as one of the hardest to identify. Some Winter Games skiing pins are also unclear in defining the sport or discipline within the sport. The official Games Mark is often included on sports pins, as is the Mascot.
3. ΧΟΡΗΓΟΙ (Sponsor pins)
Sponsor pins are produced by corporations that either sponsor or supply an Olympic Games. As the world-wide popularity of the Olympics continues to grow, more and more sponsor pins have been produced. The corporate logo is usually prominent in designing these pins. Some sponsors produce whole series of sets and individual pins. Some only produce a few. Often the official Games Mark or Sports Pictograph accompany the corporate logo. From a very few simply designed pins produced for sponsors before 1984, this category of Olympic pins has grown exponentially.
4. Μασκώτ (Mascot pins)
Mascot pins have become very collectible the past few years. To those unschooled in the Olympic Movement, names like Misha, Sam, Cobi, Izzy, Phevos, etc., mean nothing. To many Olympic fans and pin collectors, the names immediately identify the Olympic Edition and the image of the characters come to mind. Besides the Games Mark nothing is more closely associated with a particular Games. The mascots are sometimes shown participating in an Olympic sport, with the Games Mark, or together with a corporate sponsor or supplier logo.
5. Αναμνηστικά
Commemorative pins are almost always issued by an Olympic Committee. These pins are often sold to raise money to support the nation's Olympic Teams. The national flag, indigenous animals, famous landmarks, and National Olympic Committee name are popular themes. The Olympic Rings are usually prominent.
I put Historical pins in this category. These pins might honor a nation's past Olympic teams, past host cities, or past Olympic posters.
There were many commemorative pins issued for the 1996 Atlanta Games. Since these Olympics celebrated the 100th year of the Modern Olympics, an abundance of historical series were produced.

6. Αντίστροφης Μέτρησης (Countdown pins)
Countdown pins do exactly what they say: They count down to an Olympic Games. Early countdown pins are usually issued soon after a host city is chosen by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). There are series that count down by years, months, and days. Another popular theme is even numbers, starting with 1000 and counting down by 100's. The Games Mark or Mascot(s) often appear on countdown pins. Sometimes individual sports are featured. Day pins are similar because they count the days during an Olympics. The days are counted from the Opening Ceremonies to the Closing Ceremonies. Some very elaborate day pins have the pictograms of the sports competed on that day.
7. ΔΙΑΦΟΡΑ
There are Paralympic, holiday, IOC, NOC, Candidate City, bid, bridge, multi-sport, folklore, flag, welcome, Torch Relay, Cultural Olympics, etc. pins produced for most Olympics.

There are about 10 main themes for 2008 Beijing pins; at least the ones I am most familiar with. These themes are actually used for most Olympic Edition pins.

Olympic Bid Pins
Bid pins are perhaps the most varied Olympic pins available to collectors. They are certainly finding a popularity that wasn't enjoyed prior to the 1996 Atlanta bid. Once a city is accepted from applicant cities, candidate cities began producing promotional pins in earnest. Not only were they simple and effective ways to promote their bid, but they were a source of pride and excitement across the prospective host nation. Many were perhaps motivated by the seemingly insatiable demand for them around the world.

The undated pin is a bid pin from Cape Town, South Africa for the 2004 Summer Olympics.

How does a city become a host for the Olympics?
There is a 3-stage process which lasts for many months. Each stage is a logical building block for the next.

The National Olympic Committee-NOC proposes selection, along with an official letter from the specific city, directly to the International Olympic Committee-IOC. An extensive questionnaire covering the city's plan for the Games is completed and returned to the IOC for study. This phase lasts about one year, during which various committees determine the city's potential to actually organize an effective Olympics. Federations play an important part by determining if the sports venues available and planned meet minimum competition requirements.

The Atlanta pin below is one example of the few applicant city pins made.

Candidate City:

From these studies the IOC Executive Board selects a limited number of Candidate Cities. During this second phase a comprehensive file is created containing much more specific data and submitted to the IOC. An Evaluation Committee is formed including International Federations, NOCs, various IOC entities, and members of the International Paralympic Committee. Host cities will host not only the Olympics, but the Paralympic as well. During this phase members of the Evaluation Committee make personal inspection visits to the cities. Candidate cities produce a lot of promotional material and media events to generate interest in their countries. This phase can also last about a year.

The 2 pins below show the subtle (and sometimes not so subtle) changes candidate Cities sometimes make to their pins during the time frame.

Host City:

The IOC Executive Board submits a short list of usually between 4-8 of which met the criteria as a Host City to the IOC for election. Presentations by each Candidate City are made to the general assembly of IOC members who choose the Host City by ballot. These sessions are always held in a neutral site; that is, a city not being considered during the session. IOC members can't vote if their nation has a Candidate City. If a Candidate City doesn't receive a majority of votes on the first ballot, the city with the lowest vote total is eliminated. This continues until one gets a majority of votes. The selection usually occurs seven years before the event date. London was selected to host the 2012 Summer Olympic Games during the 117th Session in Singapore, held from July 6-9, 2005.

Bid pins can have many sub-categories.

Salt lake City created many styles with their famous upside down Y Bid Logo. The same basic logo was used for the city’s unsuccessful bid for the 1998 Winter games, won by Nagano. There were countdown , holiday, special event, and sports pins, along with many logo styles.

Some bid cities chose a mascot early enough to use it/them on their bid pins.
